The Science of Vibration and Resonance in Music
In music, every note, chord, and sound have a frequency— a rate at which it vibrates. Frequencies are typically measured in Hertz (Hz), which tells us how many times a sound wave oscillates per second. These oscillations are the fundamental building blocks of all sound.
When different musical notes are played together, they interact through a phenomenon called resonance. Resonance occurs when the frequencies of two sounds align in such a way that they amplify each other, creating a harmonious effect. The most common example of resonance in music is when certain notes played together, such as a fifth or octave, sound naturally pleasing to the human ear, creating a sense of unity and balance.
Vibrations and Frequencies Beyond Music: Personal Energy
Just as vibrations in music create resonance, we can think of our own bodies as systems of energy that vibrate at their own frequencies. Our personal vibration is higher and more harmonious. However, when we’re stressed, anxious, or unwell, our vibration lowers, creating disharmony in our energy field. This can impact our well-being and our interactions with others.

In the same way that musical vibrations align to create resonance, we can align our personal vibrations to create a sense of resonance with the world around us.

- Mindfulness and Meditation: The practice of mindfulness helps us become aware of our thoughts, feelings, and with practice, our current vibrational state. You cannot change what you are not aware of.
- Emotional Awareness: Our emotions have a direct effect on our personal frequency. Emotions like love, joy, and peace vibrate at higher frequencies, while anger, fear, and guilt vibrate at lower frequencies. By processing our emotions in healthy ways, we can begin to raise our vibration.
- Physical Health: Our physical bodies also vibrate at certain frequencies. When we take care of our health, we can maintain a healthier vibration. Yoga, Tai Chi, Qigong, and other practices that connect body and mind can be especially effective in moving and tuning our energy.
- Surrounding Yourself with Positive Influences: Just as certain musical notes resonate with each other; we can consciously align ourselves with higher vibrational surroundings. Embracing more positive influences like beautiful gardens, music and art. Uplifting people and environments can help us become higher vibrational people.
